Handbook of Neurosurgery (Greenberg) New 7th Edition
I am pleased to announce that the 7th edition of the Handbook of Neurosurgery by Mark S. Greenberg ((c) 2010) is currently in press. If everything goes well, it should be available by early to mid March 2010. The retail price will be $99.95 U.S.
My goal has always been to try and create a book in which one could quickly look up information to help with managing neurosurgical patients, as well as to answer important neurosurgical questions (one of my early inspirations occurred in my residency during Grand Rounds, when Frank Mayfield asked what was the blood supply to the spinal cord, and we all sank into our seats hoping not to get called on!).
New or improved features in the 7th edition include:
- color illustrations for some anatomy and surgical diagrams
- color highlights throughout the book to improve readability
- basic surgical procedures (this is not a surgical atlas!)
- more management specifics (blunt carotid injuries, stroke...)
- Booking the Case: information to help jog the memory about what is needed for scheduling an operation and what to put in the consent, for over 30 different operations. I would love to get feedback regarding how useful this is, and for ways to improve it
- TLICS & SLIC fracture grading scales
- summaries of management guidelines for NPH and cervical spondylotic myelopathy
- the use of endovascular techniques has been expanded in applicable sections

The scholarship supports a 10-week summer semester of research under the supervision of a neurosurgical mentor at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and residence expenses in Portland, Oregon. Students in the first or second year of study at an accredited U.S. medical school are eligible to apply. One scholar will be selected annually.

Updates in progress…
Site updates are in progress. A lot of it is bringing the site up to date with current web standards and hopefully streamlining and reducing load times. The bookstore is new. Support us by buying stuff from amazon by using our page. More new features are in store. You may see pages change in front of your eyes as we update the site or stuff might not even work. Do not be alarmed.

Yes, we're actually still here, just too busy to do anything. I have some cases I'll throw up next week as well as some "new and exciting" (not) stuff. If I have time, that is.
